A positive change for domestic abuse charity

21 Digital has just completed a brand new website for domestic abuse charity, Women’s Housing Action Group (WHAG). The new site is live – and bang on brief!
Founded in 1981 to offer housing and support to vulnerable women, this brilliant registered charity has expanded its services over the years to offer a wider range of support to survivors of domestic abuse in Rochdale, Bury, Wigan and Chester.
While WHAG already had a website, it had become clunky and dated; what they needed in its place was a dynamic, easy-to-use platform that would showcase their services and act as a positive, informative space for people in need. The site had to have clear, simple navigation, strong visual appeal and a simple-to-use content management system (CMS), enabling staff to log in and update it easily in future.
The charity got in touch with 21 Digital digital marketing agency after being referred to us by another of our happy clients, and our technical director Michael stepped up to lead on the project.
We created a sleek new website with a streamlined sitemap, allowing visitors to make their way quickly and easily to the pages they need – crucial for a site that is used as a resource by survivors of domestic violence.
Contact details are displayed prominently at the top of every page and, as a further safeguarding measure, a bold “Hide your visit” button has been added to the site, redirecting visitors to an innocuous website with a single click. WHAG’s latest news and social media updates are displayed clearly on the homepage, inviting further interaction elsewhere on the web.
The attractive visual branding gives a professional image and helps to identify WHAG’s different services, while the WordPress CMS will make life easy in future: information all over the website can be updated in just a few simple clicks.
Michael commented on the project, saying:
“This has been a great project to work on. WHAG are a brilliant local organisation, and we were pleased to help them out. A charity like WHAG needs to be able to concentrate on delivering to its service users, so it was important they had a website that was up-to-scratch.
“The site we’ve created is designed to make life easier: it’s simple to navigate around, and all the vital information is just a click or two away from the homepage. With bold graphics and positive images, it’s designed to act not just as a resource for people in need, but as a hopeful message that WHAG can help.
“21 Digital is a big supporter of charities here in Lancashire: we recently began work on a website for Burnley FC in the Community, so we’re really pleased to add WHAG to our list of happy clients. We’d encourage anybody in need of help to contact WHAG, and anyone who can to make a donation.”
Kathryn Harrop from WHAG added:
“Here at WHAG, we wanted a website that looked good, conveyed a positive message and was both easy to navigate around and use. All these factors were achieved with the creative and effective designs of Twenty-one.
“We found working with Twenty-one to be a pleasure: it was really easy and straight forward, and they were always on hand to offer advice and guidance when needed.”
