Youtube rolls out brand new design
Youtube has rolled out a brand new channel design in a bid to create “a video-based site to a channels-based site, where subscriptions rule”.
Essentially, YouTube is working to help advertisers better engage with their target customer base by encouraging and emphasising channel subscriptions, allowing advertisers to cultivate a community on YouTube.
The new design, ‘One Channel’, has been applied to all the channels on the video network.
What does this mean for your business? Well, companies without the resources to develop multiple new videos will be able to use the new channel to highlight their older videos.
You can also make it easier for viewers to find collections of videos on topics of their interest and increase the amount of time users spend on the business’ YouTube channel.
Youtube said: “The main focus of this update is to make your new channel look great on browsers across all screens and devices.
“It will also help you convert more visitors into subscribers with a slot for a channel trailer, and you can customise how you organise your videos and playlists so it fits your programming strategy.”
One of the more interesting changes is the added option of a welcome video to your channel for new viewers.
But, there is less freedom for a customised channel layout, which some people will not appreciate.
YouTube has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to produce original content, which is not surprising, considering it’s the website’s core offering.
Quick tips to make your channel more popular
1. Fill out your bio with relevant information.
2. Add links to your external websites and social media in the about section.
3. Your ‘channel banner’ can contain text so you can include a call to action.
4. Make a trailer to encourage more channel subscriptions.
5. Display your most popular videos or playlists.
