Building a bright future for North West charity
At 21 Digital, we get involved in a variety of projects for a range of industries, and this month brought the launch of the website for a great cause – Burnley FC in the Community.
A winning proposal
We won the project back in the summer, when we were picked to help the North West charity create an informative and engaging new website that would help support, inspire and deliver change through community-centred themes. Our winning proposal included a responsive website built on a WordPress platform, which would allow the charity total control over their events – from taking bookings to integrating them into a manageable online calendar. All of our ideas and suggestions won over the team at Burnley FC in the Community, so a few weeks later we began cracking on with the exciting task ahead.
Beating technical challenges
As we began developing the website, it was clear that there were three main technical areas that we’d have to spend some time on. Firstly, was the booking facility for holiday courses, which needed an integrated events calendar managed by a handy app. This isn’t a common request across the websites we’ve worked on, but at 21 Digital, we love a good challenge, and so embraced this one whole-heartedly. Secondly, PayPal payment integration was also required, to bring the website in line with modern needs and demands, just like other top-class retail and charity websites. The third and final technical area we addressed was the WordPress content management system, which we’d chosen to use because of its functionality, professional look and feel, and ease of use. Choosing WordPress would allow the team at Burnley FC in the Community to maintain their website in the long term, keeping the site fresh and up to date with the latest news and campaigns.
On choosing WordPress, Michael Cain, Technical Director at Twentone said:
“Using a WordPress content management system meant we could make effective use of the wealth of plugins available to deliver the functionality the client required.”
One website for all devices
Of course, our websites wouldn’t be complete without the must-have responsive features, required by modern web users who like to browse the World Wide Web on all of their devices. The responsive design we implemented guaranteed that the new Burnley FC in the Community website would look great – whether viewed on your mobile phone, tablet, or desktop computer. The design responds to the device you’re viewing from meaning there’s no need to pinch and scroll.
Neil Hart, Head of Community, was extremely pleased with the final result:
“We are delighted to have a great platform to build a strong online presence with our charitable work. I would like to thank 21 Digital Digital Agency for producing an excellent website which really caters for our needs.”
“A key consideration for the website identity brief was to create impact and provide a quick easy way of accessing the sports courses.
We achieved these objectives with the use of large photos that fill the browser screen and scale gracefully depending on the users device. The inclusion of a handy events bar means that no matter where you are in the website you can find a course effortlessly.”
